The basket is pretty, the the wooden needles were damaged, and we had to go to the library for better basic instructions for my daughter to understand.

My daughter was pleased as punch. She got 900 feet (that's a lot for child sized mittens and scarves!) of yarn and a pretty basket to keep the things neat. The needles were just fine. A few other kits at our local shop were going for twice this and didn't have as much yarn and the "baskets" were cheap plastic tubs. If something is damaged I know we usually exchange the item to the store or call the manufacturer and they're more than happy to replace items. Also my daughter is seven years old and just entered 1st grade and she had no problems understanding the instructions with a little help from me.

We got this as an 11th birthday present for one of my daughter's friends. It was the hit of the birthday party -- all the girls went home with new yarn belts, and my daughter, who can already knit a little, asked if she could have one, too. The colors of yarn are bright and the texture is easy to work with. For our purposes, this was a great birthday present.

Today is Christmas 2005. My husband and I bought this toy for our 9 year old daughter. I am 34 years old and love to do crafts and I have an I.Q. of 140. This toy reduced me to tears. It is supposed to be suitable for children 8 and up. Yet I couldn't even get it to work. The instructions are incomplete and you have to assume alot. Many of the pieces of the toy don't stay on properly, so the stitches drop constantly. After 5 attempts I was only able to get 3 rows done, and then the stupid claw dropped off the bottom and pulled out all the stitches. I could have knitted a scarf by hand in the time it took me just to complete three rows. Never, ever buy this toy! It is not worth the aggravation or the money. It does not work! I wish my husband had read the reviews before he purchased it. But like they say, hindsight is 20/20. This is a warning to all would be consumers of this product. Please learn from our mistake. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

I cannot believe this thing has the Singer name on it.
Don't frustrate another child giving this gift that doesn't even work.

I was so happy when I got this toy for christmas. But, the excitement stopped when I found myself unable to 1. comprehend the directions, and 2. WORK THE MACHINE! It has a very poor design and works like a piece of crap. In the time I tried to figure this thing out, I could have knitted 3 scarves manually! Do NOT buy this piece of junk product and look else where for a better quality knitting machine!

My daughter received this and immediately loved it. When it broke, we went and got another one for her (exchange), but t never worked right. We tried to figure out the problem with, attempted to contact the manufacturer, but was not successful. The store told us that they couldn't exchange it again because all of the one's they had were already exchanged. She's completely heartbroken. Cheap working parts. She was very patient with it, but it just isn't made to last. A wonderful idea for a toy, but not a very good product.

The first time I bought this and found out about it, I always wanted it. Tried it out and it broke, send the receiept to the manufacturer and gave me a replacement and finally it worked, the things i dont like is that it gets jammed too many times and the yarn keeps getting stuck to one hook which can mess up the item. My sister loves using this item so ill give this 3 stars

This definitely rates as a "10" on the Christmas gift list. My daughter - who is not so crafty - was able to knit a tube scarf in less than an hour. There were some dropped stitches, but I think it was more due to user error or inattention than from the machine.

My daughter followed the instructions exactly as was spelled out (directions are very clear and easy to follow), and she had no problems with the set up. We've been having a little challenge with the flat panel, but again, I think it's because my daughter takes a lot of breaks and can't remember if she was turning clockwise or counterclockwise.

My biggest tip to share is to work slowly so you can watch the machine as it picks up each stitch. There were a few times that the yarn didn't catch, but all you have to do is push the yarn into the hook. I'd expect more if it were a professional machine, but it isn't. The knitting machine is made of plastic and will not last indefinitely, but hey, for a child's toy, it's great for the price.

It's a great confidence builder because she can make something, in a relatively short time, that she can wear. Plus with the eyelash yarn, it is very forgiving on any human error defects.

This product is badly made, and not worth any time or energy. Please do yourself a favor and don't bother with buying it.
I bought one, it lasted all of about 2 hrs, until it broke.

Cute idea, but when turning the crank the machine isn't stable and you need an additional person to hold down the machine. Can't imagine any child being able to do this on her own. My daughter felt very frustrated!! Not worth the money!

I rated this as 3 stars all thorough so I could post this. I got a Knit Magic(a much earlier version) as a kid and love it - yes that is right - I still have it and my mom used it to make 3 King blanlets of woven tubes!!! I am 40 something! I was hoping that this was a new version, apparently it is, but not as durable or reliable, too bad - it was a lot of FUN!
