i will buy this for every new baby i know!i bought this toy for my daughter when she was 5 weeks old. by the next day, she had learned to turn the music on by herself (you spin the center wheel pretty hard), and would do so whenever she woke up in the night. by the end of the week she was sleeping through the night, and i think this toy had a lot to do with it, as it helps her put herself back to sleep without needing me to come soothe her. there are 3 sound functions: talking, music and constant music. we put the talking on for play time and the music at night. at 10 weeks old, she is starting to get big enough to reach the other toys with her feet if i lay her the short way in her crib, but for now her main interest is the wheel that plays music. this is seriously the best money we've spent on baby things.

Actually LEARN with Tad's Great Day at the Letter Factory!I must admit that I've been skeptical of LeapFrog's claims that their products are educational. My son enjoys his LeapPad, and it certainly entertains him, but I've wondered if he's actually learned anything. Tad's Great Day at the Letter Factory has changed my view. The first time I popped it in the reader, we sat and worked on it for nearly an hour. I couldn't believe it! My son typically spends 15 to 20 minutes working a LeapPad book, so this was shocking to me. Then, characteristically he wanted to do it again.
Presently, my son owns 12 LeapPad books. Tad's Great Day at the Letter Factory is his current favorite, and it receives a lot of attention. He loves to trace the letters, especially the letter "I" because it's "i, i, i, icky..., and "Y" because it goes y, y, y, YEAH!" The activities are fun for preschoolers, and William enjoys the silly sayings, and interactive play. The mazes are challenging too. For example, the final maze asks that you pick up letter(s) and deliver them to a specific location. The activity requires children to listen to instructions, find and recognize the letter(s), and follow the path to deliver them. It offers praise along the way, which preschoolers appreciate.
William has recently started asking questions about words. For instance, the other day he asked if the word "car" started with "C," or "K" because it has the "c, c, c" sound. Last night he told me his pizza was h, h, h, HOT like the letter "H." I think the interactive play, and focus on phonics in the LeapPad Reading and Writing books is making the difference in his comprehension.
Two things to consider before purchasing a Writing book: firstly, don't leave a preschooler unattended with a pencil, and second, let them practice two, or three times before YOU erase the pages. I learned the hard way that my son, and a pencil can be a dangerous combination. After William got the hang of the book I stepped out of the room to unload the dishwasher, and when I came back there were ALL sorts of scribbling marks on the pages. The Magic Pencil automatically feeds when the lead gets low, but you have to tap it a couple times for it to work. This frustrates my son, and he'll start banging on the darn thing, and scrawling to get it to work. It does the trick, but makes a horrible mess. Also, plan to spend at least 30-minutes erasing the pages of this book. I keep the eraser out of my son's reach, because every time he sees it, he wants to use it. The pages will crinkle, and they will tear off the binding with too much friction.
My only gripe with Tad's Great Day at the Letter Factory, short of all the erasing, is that it only features upper case letters. You have to purchase the Kindergarten book to work on both upper, and lower case letters, so if your child is already practicing his letters I recommend the Kindergarten book instead. Overall, it's been very helpful, and I believe my son is actually learning from this book.

OutstandingWhen I bought the Leap Pad I thought it was a bummer because it did not come with this book although it was shown on the cover of the box. However, once I learned that this book was available I purchased it.
My just turned five year old pre-schooler has not put it down since I bought it two weeks ago. He works hours at it. Never tires. His progress has been spectacular. My wife who taught phonics for 30 years is very pleased not only with the book but the way it teaches phonics. My pre-schooler has not only learned his phonics but he is beginning to read.
I have had difficulty getting him interested in other Leap Pad learning books but not with this one. He thirsts for knowledge and this Leap Pad product has really turned him on.
I would highly recommend it for children who have already learned their alphabet and are beginning to write. The only drawback is that it way too expensive.

All puff, no huffThis interactive book is as lame as any pastime my child engages in. It makes "One Bear in the Bedroom" - the book that accompanies the new Little Touch Leap Pad - look like "Gone with the Wind." Somebody somewhere is embarrassed about putting this one out.
We put this on our son's wish list because he loves his Leap Pad, because he's played "Bear" within an inch of its life, and because he's obsessed with trains. Whereas with "Bear" he'd fiddle with it for ages, figuring out how to do things and looking for new discoveries, he simply turns this one on and lets it run while he does anything else - no exploring, no trying to figure out, not even much re-creation of things he likes to do in "Bear." For this to happen with Alex with anything with a train theme is quite a (reverse) accomplishment.
The interactive activities and puzzles are too simple, both unrewarding and unengaging; the music and artwork are primitive; the storytelling and singing flat as a pancake. I have no idea what other new Little Touch books have or do, but we're darn sure going to find out.
Save your money, or spend it on something else.

Way too longOut of all 4 Little Touch books we have, this is the longest. The book is 21 pages long (most are about 18 pages), with a lot of stuff going on and plenty of things to push. Like a regular book, you have to read it inorder for it to make sense. The alphabet book and number book you can skip around, but each letter/letters has its own page with pictures next to it.
The book is actually so much better, because it is easier to pick up where you left off with out hearing "Welcome to the Little Touch leap pad system....Press the Go circle to get started, with a lot of music, which makes a child interested in reading uninterested. I hate listening to the couple of music notes before turning the page, it is overstimulating.
The voice on this book is also too monotone, which makes it seem even longer. Think of it as being read by Eeyore (long drawn out words that make you want to fall asleep). One bear in the bedroom is so much more animated when being read.

the little engine that couldmy son loves this book because it is about a train. we got it in a reasonable amount of time at a good price.

DisappointedI read all of the reviews on this product and compared it to several other walkers before purchasing it for my daughter's 1st birthday. I was sooo excited about getting it for her, eventhough a lot of the reviews stated that the doors came off easily..I wasn't too concerned about that, just more that it was going to be fun and safe for her. I was excited that it "claimed" to have speed control on the front wheels, and that was really what sold me on the product. However, Now I am wishing I would have got her something else!! The speed control doesn't work at all! If I allowed her to take off with it she would end up face planted in the floor screaming, if she moves even the slightest bit to the side it tips over. The sad thing is, it really is a cute toy (but I guess that is what you end up really paying for is the look and not safety.) The best part about the toy, for my daughter anyway, is that the doors DO come off... Funny how that works huh:) A parent can buy the coolest looking toy ever and the little booger would rather play with a cardboard box :)God Bless Her - She teaches me "Simplicity" lol Anyway, ultimately I am disappointed at the safety of this toy. Hope this helps someone!
no flash, but goodIf you are like me and SICK of toys that play music and have flashing lights, then this simple walker is for you. Because it folds up flat easily, we would take it to the park with our 10 month old son and set it up on the grass. My son would push it from one end of the park to the other end happily. And when he got tired, he would sit and post the letters (or whatever else he got his hands on), or play with the buttons. Yes, it occasionally tipped, but no harm occurred, and what toddler isn't going to go face down from time to time? And because it is so simple, I never worried about getting dirt, grass or sand in it - it washed off easily. But here is what really struck me - a kid at the park came up to us and started playing with the walker. After pushing the numbers (stickers really), he complained "this doesn't do anything". My son would disagree.
Instant Hit!Wow, this was an instant hit with my 10 month old. It took me nearly an hour to put together simply because she was crawling over me the entire time trying to "help" with the slide toys. My baby is only 18 pounds and pretty agile, so we haven't had any problems with tipping. She loves walking through the house after me. I also think the "letters" are a great idea. Just the right size for chewing and large enough not to get lost easily. Fun toy and great value for the price!

Crayola Chalk Stomperz

Average review score:

crayola chalk stomperzWe were also disappointed with the product. My grandaughter is 6 yr. old. both of us tried to get the chalk out of the pad; but most was in the air and on us! The stencils are really nice. Using them with the chalk works, but for a 6 year old it's to slow. I think it would be good with the sidewalk paint instead. We had bought the other sidewalk toy using chalk and were also disappointed in it. It only goes forward and uses a lot of chalk. These look great, but did they try them on kids?
Doesn't work as advertisedThis sounds like such a good idea, but in actuality, it doesn't work. The sidwalk chalk and stencils work fine, but the stencils don't work with the "stomperz." The chalk dust comes flying out of these things in every direction and lands on everything *except* the stencil you're trying to make. Your child ends up covered in chalk dust (including up their noses!), but the stencil is still un-chalked. We were SO disappointed with this one!

Ben's Birthday Entertainment 2006!I ordered this at the last minute and it came in time for my 2 year old's birthday yay! It was a hit with both he and my 5 year old son. It is actually the coolest ride on toy like this that I have seen. Only one complaint the batteries died already, which is worse for the kids than me as it is a bit annoying after an 8 hour day of it ;)

Dangerous Pieces!Although this toy is still a favorite for my 16month old son, I had to remove the magnets from his reach. I found him with the circle magnet stuck in his mouth. I scared me to death, but I quickly removed it. If you buy this, please remove the magenets before you let your child play with it!!
1st Birthday Gift for Triplets.I purchased this item for my 1yr old triplets and they are truely inlove with it.They enjoy playing with the maze. It's a great toy for toddlers.
A wonderful experience!I purchased the Giant Bead Maze for my grandson's 1st birthday, and his plays with it every day. He loves it!
