Not a good guide for shape sorting...
We received this toy as a gift when my son was 6 months old. The shapes are not firm enough to resist the child from forcing them into the wrong shape. Isn't that a principle for a good shape sorter?

FYI, Peekablocks make a great shape sorter that my son now loves!

    Nephew loved this!
We bought this for our nephew over the holidays. He was seven or eight months old at the time and just loved it. His parents had not given him many of the pricier developmental toys, and most of his toys seemed to be either cuddly stuffed animals or older plastic baby toys from a cousin. This toy seemed to fill a void and to hold his attention for quite a while. He seemed to love the visual stimulation, tactile sensations (the softness, the crinkle) and the sounds (the crinkle sound, the bell sound). He giggled a lot while playing with it, which seemed to be a good sign! It's a great toy and one we will certainly buy when we have a baby!

Simple but fun and educational toy
We got this toy very early, when my son was only a few months old. Now that he is over a year old, he has used different aspects of the toy over different stages. Earlier on he would just drop the shapes, but now he loves chasing the soft ball around, and opening and dumping the blocks from the box. It's easy to clean and just a nice, simple toy that allows for good imaginative play.

    Looks cheap
I ordered this toy for my 11 month old daughter. Before I ordered it I read all of the reviews and it seemed that it would be a great toy. UPS delivered the toy today and I am truly disappointed! It looks like a cheap, plastic box. My co-workers and I seem to think it's a rip off, compared to the other gifts I've purchased. I THINK I am going to give it to my daughter to play with because it seems that children really enjoy the toy, but it CERTAINLY looks like a cheap toy that was not worth the time, energy or money I spent.

    a must have
I bought this item for my 22 month old. i was nervous about it not being age appropriate. I thought it would be too much of a baby toy... but I was wrong! She loves this toy nad takes it along in the car. Many acitivities to keep your little one busy!

    Grand daughter loves it
    nice item, good shipping

Not as great as the reviews would have you believe
I was surprised that this toy got such good reviews, because I am not at all impressed with it. I thought that both of my sons (12 mos. and almost 3 years) would enjoy it, but neither has spent much time with it, despite enjoying other shape sorters - plus, one loves music, the other loves animals/making animal sounds. The shapes are hard to get out, and this frustrates my 1-year-old son. And I was disappointed that the music doesn't play when the shape is inserted; you have to press the shape after putting it in to get the music to play (or bypass that, and push the little button to get the music without even doing the shapes).

    My 1 year old approves
She got this toy for her birthday and just loves it. It keeps her occupied the whole time while I am getting ready for work. Her favorite side is the shapes. She will take them out and put them back in over and over again. When she pushes on the shape she will wiggle and bob her head to the music. A good value for the price.

    WONDERFUL TOY!!!
My mom bought this toy for my 13 month old daughter. She absolutely LOVES it! She loves pushing the animals to hear the sounds they make, taking the shapes out and shaking them (they rattle), and turning it over to play with the items on the other side. It entertains her for a good 30 minutes, which is quite long for a 13 month old. I read that some people were not as impressed with it, but I have not had 1 problem. I would recommend this toy to everyone!

      fantastic!!!
My daughter received this for her first birthday and it immediately became her favorite toy. She loved carrying it around the house with the handle and using it to sit on. She's over 2 now and still plays with it. The "people" are fun to stack and she enjoys putting things inside (of course, at first she needed help separating the shapes from the letters). It still gets used on playdates even by the older kids. Great toy!

      A Must Have
My daughter loved this when she was 6 months old - opening and closing the red door. And now she's a year and she puts the shapes in, takes them out, puts them in, takes them out. It will be great in another year as she will be able to put the shapes in the correct holes. This toy is a lot less expensive than others but keeps her attention for much longer. We love it!

Still Fun After a Year of Play
Few toys in our household have stood the test of time like this one. My toddler and his baby brother both play with it regularly. It functions as both a shape sorter and a prop for imaginative play.

        gets moldy
Fun toy, only grievance is that the tree where you pour the water into- its difficult to air this out completely. Ours wound up with mold inside and you cant take it apart to clean it.

        Not worth $14.99
Cute tub toy and very durable but not worth $14.99 in my opinion. I do like that there are no holes in the characters for the water to get into.

        Great Tub Toy!
My son loved this as a baby and now he's turning three and still plays with it! He loves the tree shower and the whale cup. This is a great, durable toy that kids continue to play with as they get older. Highly Recommend!!

All children like blocks; it's a universal. This set is a lot like the blocks most of us would've had when we were kids, before plastic became more common than wood. For the price, this really can't be beat; order two sets and you'll never need to buy blocks again!

            SHARP EDGES!
(NOTE: My review is about the smaller 50-pc set of this series.) I just bought this set at a retail store today, intending to supplement an older set of blocks that I had growing up that my kids are now using. Having always had positive experiences with Imaginarium products, I was expecting good quality from this set of blocks. My son and I opened it a few minutes ago, and the blocks are brightly colored and nicely sized...as to be expected from Imaginarium. However, we were quite disappointed to discover that the edges on these things are rather sharp! I compared them to my older set, then decided in a matter of minutes that they are potentially dangerous and will be returned to the store for a refund. I strongly recommend that you do not buy these, unless you have a lot of patience and a lot of sandpaper. Imaginarium, what a disappointment!

            Foster your budding mathmetician!!!
I bought this set for my two year old to replace the same set that was sent to grandma's house when my older girls "got too old for them". Little did I know that they would become great fun for my big girls (8 and 6)when their baby sister got old enough for them. They spend hours with their grandpa building things for the baby to knock over. A side note; my older children spent a lot of time sorting these blocks by color and shape before they were old enough to really build, and both of them have developed exceptional math skills. Maybe they'll be successful engineers someday, and it all started with wooden blocks.

              SHARP EDGES
I bought these blocks for my 1 and 3 year old daughters and the colors on the blocks are nice but boy are the edges on the blocks quite sharp! I often wonder what the creators of the set was thinking because it is obvious they were not thinking about the safety of a child.

              Not that great
My daughter loves to build things. But, she isn't as interested in these blocks as I thought she would be. They're not as enticing as I had hoped. Plus, they are A LOT smaller than they appear. So, be careful because if you have smaller children.

Great gift for kids of all ages
This is a great gift if you have kids like mine and get bored with flassy, loud toys. I bought it for my 4 year old, but the 7 year and 18 month old ended up fighting to play with it also. They spent hours making dozens of different buildings. The sharp edges haven't seemed to bother my kids, just tell them not to throw them.

                  Doesn't stay together.
My daughter is 18 months old and takes this toy apart every time she plays with it. She pulls the pegs out and puts them in her mouth. Then she tosses the shapes everywhere. Not exactly a sorter! Just a mess. Save your money!

                  Great for three-year-olds
I bought this item for my little boy's third birthday and he just loves it. Prior to using this toy, I had difficulty trying to teach him his colors. Now he separates the colors like a pro!

I have another three-year-old (soon to be four). He uses this toy in a totally different way. He sorts by shape, sets out the different foam pieces and pegs on the floor and plays with them just as pieces, fills his little basket with them and walks around the house like Little Red Riding Hood, and generally loves them.

I must say that I love all products by Lauri. We have some lacing/tracing toys and some puzzles as well. They have helped both my toddlers with their fine motor skills more than any other toys they own. The foam pieces stand up well, as long as your kids are past the choking/chewing age. Also, Lauri Toys will replace lost or chewed on pieces!

The only reason I give this item 4 stars and not 5 is that our pegs get lost very easily due to my younger toddler's throwing habit. If a peg is missing, the puzzle isn't nearly as much fun. I understand that the peg/foam pad was developed to go with Lauri's other peg systems, so it wouldn't be a big deal if we had other pegs from Lauri, but we don't.

                  Outstanding toy
This is a really great preschool toy. I bought one for my two year old and he really loves it. He will spend a whole hour playing with it. The chunky pieces and pegs are great for little hands, and the bright primary colors and variety of shapes are great for learning. The pieces also work well for making a color shape matrix to go along with my kindergartner's math. This toy was a wonderful homeschool investment. The one caveat is that I have to watch my two year old and make sure he doesn't bite the pieces.
