Fisher-Price Peek-a-Blocks: Sight Sensations Blocks

    Very Fun
These are a great beginner block set. They are sturdy and stand up to many children playing hard with them. Despite rough play and children standing on them they have not broken. They also haven't scratched up- you can still easily see what is in the block. Also these blocks are very fun- each one has something interesting in it and many of them have something to do such as turn a knob to make a sound or flip the colors over etc. The only thing these blocks don't do very well is stack tall. So if your little one likes to stack things up and knock them over, these are not the blocks for that activity. Otherwise, great blocks.

If you like toys that encourage exploration of the world around you, are fairly quiet and help foster imagination and creative play these fit the bill perfectly.

    Well worth the money.
    Enjoy.

    Excellent Item
We love ALL the peek-a-blocks and related items. They can hold up to big kids stepping on them and throwing them, they are big enough to keep track of but small enough to store away, and each one is unique. We plan to keep all the peek-ablocks and roll-a-rounds (and related toys) long past our kids baby days so when people come to visit with little ones they can play with a some great toys!

Child did lost interest after 3 min
Totally lost interest. Someone got this for our daughter and she just doesn't care about it. It just takes up space. It does the ABC's however there are so many other toys out there that are more fun than this one.

      Toby is great but...
We got Toby for my son for Christmas this year (he is 14 months old), and he is terrified of him. I think it is a good toy, I just hate that you have to push the button each time you want it to say the next letter of the alphabet, or the next number or shape. The songs are cute, and my 4 year old neice loves it, so does my friend's 12 month old daughter. My son has always been a little hesitant with talking toys. (I've included this in case someone else out there has a child that reacts this way to talking/moving toys.) By bed time my son would at least touch Toby and not cry, so maybe in a couple of days, he'll really start having some fun with Toby.

      A wonderful little toy.
I'll break this down for everyone.

It does letters, shapes, numbers, and music. It's very durable. My daughter has throw it into walls, against the kitchen table, and even spilled juice on poor toby's face.

There's a little "button" on the bottom, almost like a trigger. When sitting on a flat surface, that "trigger" gets pushed in and Toby will dance while he sings. Cute, but, this is where you have to be careful. When my daughter was younger (crawling), she made Toby dance and his hand poked her in the eye. He's not sharp at all, but, it did scare her. She didn't go near him for a week till I told Toby to apologize.

      Now, onto the features..

It has an alphabet button you press for each letter, and displays the letter on Toby's little screen on his tummy.

It does the same for shapes (circle, square, triangle, rectangle). It displays the shape on the screen so the child can hear and see what shape he's talking about.

Again, it does the exact same for numbers. 1-10

For the music part. It sings the ABC's (and displays each letter on the screen), and these other cute songs.. I'll actually be a dork and type out the lyrics (because I hear it ALL the time since she plays with it every single day)

"5 little babies, playing in the park.. one saw a dog that began to bark. mommy said look quickly, before it goes away. they all had fun in the park today.
4 little babies, playing in the park.. one saw a bird that began to chirp. daddy said look quickly, before it goes away. they all had fun in the park today.
3 little babies, playing in the park.. one saw a bunny that began to hop. mommy said look quickly, before it goes away. they all had fun in the park today.
2 little babies, playing in the park.. one saw a bee that began to buzz. daddy said look quickly, before it goes away. they all had fun in the park today.
1 little baby, playing in the park.. one saw a squirrel that began to bounce. mommy said look quickly, before it goes away. they all had fun in the park today."

      and this sweet little lullaby...

"me and my teddy, we are best friend. we dance and we sing, until the day ends. when it's bedtime, the moon shines bright. so tuck us in gently, till next daylight."

Again, great toy for little ones. :)

Could have been great but ISN'T
My 22 month old daughter enjoys playing with the letters but gets very frustrated when it's time to put them away. The case will only close if you have the tiles in "just right" and it pops open easily, spilling the tiles. Also, the entire alphabet is not represented and the number sides are not in color. This could have been an excellent toy but it falls short in my opinion. The only reason my daughter plays with it at all is because she is fascinated with letters. As soon as I purchase letter shaped fridge magnets, I'm sure she won't even look at this toy.

It's cute, but there's better out there
I bought this toy for my daughter when she was 17 months old. It is a very cute toy. The illustrations are nice, and the case is very appealing, with its smiling Elmo and Cookie Monster. My daughter is now 2, and she knows almost all of her alphabet - no thanks to this ABC desk. She has probably played with it 4 times in the last 8 months, it's just not a fun toy. The tiles are cute, she likes looking at them - the pictures on them are very engaging. The case, however, is a pain... It doesn't stay closed very well, so when she walks around with it, it opens and all the tiles fall out. Unless you have the tiles perfectly distributed the case will not close. The cards with 3-letter words are attractive, but they are made with thin cardboard and easily bend and tear. I am sure that some children will love this toy and spend hours playing with it, but it seems to me that there are better, more durable alphabet desks out there.

Still playing with it after two years!
I bought this for my 14-month old son for Christmas, and nearly two years later he still pulls it out and wants to "play alphabet" with me. When he was younger, he enjoyed identifying the Sesame Street characters on the pieces. Now he's a whiz at his letters and associating the objects on each piece with the letter. My only criticisms: I wish the sides of the pieces with the numbers on them were easier to read--why not put colorful stickers on the numbers just like the letters? Also, my son cannot put the pieces away by himself because there's only one way to return the pieces to the carrier so it will close. Nevertheless, I would definitely buy this toy again and recommend as a fabulous and educational indoor, quiet-time activity.

              Bad Combo!!! Buyer Beware!
I ordered this toy for my niece's birthday. She lives 1500 miles away. I took Amazon's combo suggestion of the Barbie Pixter and the Barbie color fashion show cartridge. Lo and behold, when they arrive, they don't even WORK together. The cartridge is for a completely different system. Now my sister has to go through a return process because of this and my niece has no birthday present. THANKS AMAZON.

              Amazon problems
I bought this toy for me niece. Amazon asks if i want the Color Barbie Fashion Show with it, so i repied yes. When it arrived i was disappointed to see that the the Barbie Pixter and Barbie Color Fashion show were incompatible even though Amazon pushes them. Terrible job Amazon!

              Great Toy
I bought 2 of these for my daughters (4 and 6 yrs old) a few months ago and they both absolutely LOVE it!! They like the fact that they can "send" pictures that they created to each other (the systems need to be almost directly in front of each other but they don't seem to be bothered by that fact). The disadvantages that I found as a parent are that the systems are black and white (although my kids never seemed to care about that) and it is getting harder to find games for this. I was fortunate in that when I bought these, I was able to find many black and white games still available at the Walmart and Toys R Us stores by us. So my suggestion is do an initial search for the games and see what is available (you may be able to get many of them on sale) before purchasing this unit or spend a little more money and purchase the newer color ones (I can't review those but I would assume they work simliar to this but in color).

From a kids prespective, my 4 year old actually prefers this Barbie black and white pixter over the color Leapster she has and my 6 year old, will play with both equally.
