Don't let the robots through the gate!
Aside Bionicle, I haven't purchased any LEGOs in quite some time-- until EXO Force. The manga look at overall theme appeals to me. The Gate Assault here was my 8th and final EXO Force buy, completing the line until July. Aside the Sonic Phantom, this set is probably a resident shelf warmer at your local TRU.

The Gate Assault has 3 mobiles-- a land vehicle for the robots, a humanoid EXO mecha for the robots, an "air" humanoid EXO mecha for the humans, and then a gate to prevent the robots from breaking in to.

The robot land vehicle is a standard vehicle with nothing too exciting or flashy about it. It can hold 2 of the robots-- one to drive, and one to man the battling gun type turret built on top. It's a sturdy Lego vehicle, but like I said, nothing special.

The robot EXO mecha is an acceptable build. Although built similar to the #7711 Sentry or #7708 Uplink, it features dark red colors and nice armor designs. The shoulder, color, and arsenal are different from the other similar sets, however.

Same goes for the human's EXO mecha. It's another slighly similar build to the sets mentioned above, with the same differences, accept this one has some nice wing-like obtrusions, and a windshield. Both mecha have a cockpit to fit 1 minifigure.

The gate is a regular build, complete with a few turrets built into the sides and above the gate itself. There is a spring-loaded projecile that fires when the door is open (it has to hit the latch to fire) which makes it an inovative piece. But aside that, it is pretty dormant. It IS a wall, after all.

Every set in the EXO Force line includes a small sheet of decals with instructions on where to put them. Being a tad of a perfectionist, I spent a great deal of time trying to put them on flawlessly-- if you purchase this set for a little one, he or she may want your help. I personally like the challenge. Just don't fudge up, there are no extra decals.

I feel this set is a bit more expensive than for what you get. The main bread and butter of the line are the mecha, which go for about half the price of this. I have mixed reactions now that I've completed the line. Buy this if you're going to complete the line, or know why you want it. It's not a great example of the EXO Force line by itself, but can be fun with some of the other mecha.

Well, you gotta get other stuff, too...
Ok, this set rocks. But only because I bought two other Exo-Force sets too. If I did not have the other sets, I'd give this two stars. I'd recommend, for the two ther sets you have to buy, the Stealth Hunter and the Fire Vulture. They're pretty cool, especially the Stealth Hunter. Once that set comes out on Amazon, you will see my review for it.

Please don't overlook these wonderful toys for your child!
We have resisted buying these because they seemed so cheap...also the usual question we parents always ask ourselves..."What are they going to do with them?"

Our son received his first bionicle from a friend on his ninth birthday...it was cleverly the "bow" on a birthday present. I now regret overlooking this wonderful line of "lego's" for so long! My boys love these! They have the best time building them and an even better time playing with them.

They are priced reasonably so you can always pick-up one as a treat during trips out "shopping". If you encourage your children to "save-up" for some of their "wants", the cost of these is low enough that it doesn't take them months and months to realize their goal.

Please do not make the same mistake I made and misjudge these toys. You will be denying your child a great experience.
Although the manufacturer suggests ages 7 and up, I do not feel a child younger than 8 or 9 would be able to indendently put this toy together. My 7 year old needs some help putting these together, but he loves to try all by himself. That is the point of Lego's, to construct and play. The primary benefit, in my opinion, is the satisfaction of "doing it" yourself!

A definate A+ for our boys!
        Rosemary

        sly and cunning queen
This toy rocks. I bought it with my own money as a treat for my self and it was worth every nanocent it cost me. First now for the pros and cons. Cons, roodaka is a very "girly" bionicle it has high heels and hair to start. Also its "high heels" make it hard to stand up right. Pros, her catcher claw is by far the best of all her gadgets. The claw is easy enough to build but has given me endless fun in the night when my brothe is asleep. Next is her flexability. You can contort the model in to endless shapes and poses. Last of all almost every thing is a ball jointed so the toy can move, twist, spinn, etc... I also have Sidorak and my brother has Keetongu, they go so well wit the Roodaka toy. If you are a kid with money to spare and can look past the girly features buy this toy. If you are a paret or relaition of a child who can look past the girly features this toy will make a wonderful gift or pesant for birthdays or Cristmas.

        Good Job Lego
Roodaka is not only an mportant part of the storyline but a good toy as well. It's extremely flexible, has cool designs, and has a unique spinner. Overall, it's a great toy for any Lego fan.

        Lego Dino Attack
I bought this Lego set for my nephew for Christmas. We worked on it Christmas eve and Christmas day. It kept both of us busy!

        Lego never disappoints
Lego toys continue to be consistant winners with kids. This model was easily assembled and holds up pretty well in play except perhaps for the huge propeller that has a tendancy to get knocked off.

Great attack helicopter, with some nice features
Dino Attack! Mutant dinosaurs are on the rampage, and a crack team of heroes with high-tech weapons has to stop them from wrecking the city. This set builds a massive attack helicopter that is armed to the teeth, and a T-Rex and pterodactyl for our heroes to fight.

The T-Rex here is a bit underwhelming. He's big, he goes together easily, he has the minimum required articulation for an "action figure" (arms and legs move, head moves, jaw opens), a button on his head lights up his eyes and tongue with a menacing red glow. So far so good, I guess. But if we're gonna go as far as to make this special action figure, why not give him some more detail? He's got a smooth, untextured, undetailed body. While this does fit in with the Lego motif, it's not as cool as the Imaginext T-Rex. Speaking of which, if you're looking for cool dinosaur action figures, look no further than Fisher Price's Imaginext brand. They've got the good stuff.

Our Lego T-Rex looks appropriately menacing and evil, and he towers over our heroes, standing a couple inches under a foot tall. He might as well be Godzilla, except he's not as cool as Godzilla. Our Lego pterodactyl is equally mediocre, with posable claws, opening jaw, and stiff wings. Would've been nicer if his wings could flap.

Our good guys have a two-foot long attack helicopter with three cockpits, a small command center, retractable landing gears, spinning side guns, pivoting rear guns, a spring-loaded missile launcher, spinning rotors, and a boom crane with hook that can be raised and lowered (it can also be used as a zip-line, offering our heroic dinosaur fighters a quick way to get to the ground if they need to). This impressive helicopter brings to mind older Lego spaceships from ten years ago (or more), which were usually packed with inventive features, moving parts, and cool stuff.

The cockpits can be easily removed so that we can sit our pilots at the controls, and the canopies are easily snapped back into place. The rear cockpit has a pair of pivoting guns (nice touch!). Filling up the middle of the craft is a small command center, where some transparent panels are used to create the effect of a holographic radar screen (another nice touch). There are a lot of decals for the flight controls, radar screens, and various decorations on the outside that spruce up the look of the craft.

This helicopter is big! About two feet long. I'm not sure how easily it can be played with because it's so big. Just don't drop it. The durability here is very good. Much better than I was expecting from a large, unwieldy model. Solid design, but probably not meant for rough play. Still, there aren't any small parts that are likely to fall off during play (or even during construction, for that matter).

The best thing about this model is building it. Over 600 pieces, a nice mixture of regular Lego parts and Technic parts. Building this thing from the ground up was a real treat. A lengthy building project with numerous inventive ways that parts are used and fit together to create a great-looking model. Colors are mostly dark red, beige, dark gray, and black, with just a bit of gray and light green here and there. As mentioned, there are many decorative decals, and none of them link two pieces together. On the whole, this model is expertly designed. It's a real treat to see something this nice. It definitely stands out as one of the better-designed Lego models of recent years.

All four of our heroic dinosaur fighters are here, and two of them get pilot helmets with nice visors. These guys aren't quite as charismatic as the Alpha Team agents and Knights Kingdom guys. The Dino Attack series is sort of like Alpha Team. It has a similar feel to it and a similar cast of characters, although it's not quite as charismatic on the whole.

This set is Lego at their very best, and I'm pleased to give it a big thumbs up. Forget about the mediocre T-Rex and pterodactyl. Godzilla could take both of 'em without breaking a sweat. The helicopter was well worth the price of admission. I had a great time assembling it and playing around with it. Solid fun, and then some.

          Coolness galore!
Whoa! Is this cool or what? This is one of the most action-packed Lego sets I've seen in a long time.

I haven't kept up with the Bionicle story over the years. I always just liked the action figures. The Bohrok were very cool, as were the Rahkshi. I began to lose interest in Bionicle when the Vahki came on the scene, but I still collected a few of them. As far as I can tell, the dynamic of Bionicle stories is usually the same. The heroic, robotic Toa versus a horde of monsters. That's pretty much what's going on here.

The Visorak are cute four-legged monsters with large pincers. There are eight of them here, and they are fighting against the six elemental Toa (humanoid robots). It should be noted that the Toa figures are not posable like other Lego minifigs. They're more like mini figurines. Each guy stands in his own heroic pose, and each guy carries his own unique silver weapon. There are spears, halberds, and battering rams. I'll forgive the lack of posability here because the rest of this set is so cool.

There are six different Visoraks (they have different styles of pincers). This set comes with eight, so two of them are duplicates. They're made of semi-flexible plastic. You can push down on a little monster's back and spring him into battle to knock down the robots. Very cool. The Visorak also glow in the dark. Both the Toa and Visorak figures have some great textured detail, and the Visorak have some very nice color detail as well.

Also included is a special edition monster, "The Great Visorak". Whoa! She must be like, the Visorak queen or something. Dwarfing the other Visorak in size, this cool monster is constructed from Technic Bionicle parts. She has snapping pincer action, a ripcord and spinner, and she can also launch the smaller Visoraks from under her belly, springing them into battle. Colors here are dark blue, some light gray, silver pincers, and a gold head piece. This is a really nice model, and loads of fun to play around with.

The backdrop for our epic confrontation between monsters and robots is a large techno-castle, which I presume is the city of Metru Nui. This castle is about as big as Vladek's Dark Fortress from the Knights Kingdom series (almost two foot wide), and it has similar action features. There are two catapults that can launch flaming boulders, and four collapsible walls. Place a boulder on the trap door above, push the collapsible wall, and it causes the trap door to open, dropping the boulder to go careening down the wall (which has now become a ramp). Inventive idea! Very cool. The centerpiece of the castle is a large red mask with a ripcord and glow-in-the-dark spinner, portcullis, and drawbridge of sorts. Instead of raising and lowering like a medieval drawbridge, this one recedes into the base of the structure. Gears are used to operate the drawbridge. The base of the structure also has two silver spears that can be manually launched (not spring-loaded).

At each end of the castle is a tall tower. There are a lot of decorative elements that spruce up the look of the castle. Antennae, flame pyres, transparent yellow lamps, futuristic railings, Toa masks, and decals for the collapsible walls. There are also vines that the little monsters can use to scale the walls, and they can be firmly snapped onto a vine.

This is a lengthy building project. There are over 800 pieces here, and a good blend of regular and Technic pieces are used. The most challenging part is the construction of the centerpiece and its various mechanisms. The rest is standard Lego fare. Colors are dark gray, dark red, black, a bit of light gray, some silver here and there, and just a bit of yellow for the decorative ornaments. The castle has a modular design. You construct one part at a time, then connect them all with connector pieces. The finished product is impressive but not portable. To move it, the best idea is to disconnect the modules and relocate them one at a time. Durability is only average as far as Legos are concerned.

This set was a great idea. Mini Toa figures, mini monsters, a cool fortress for them to fight over, and the Queen Visorak to boot. This is what I like. Lots of guys with cool weapons, lots of cute little monsters, and a really nice techno-castle with cool action features so I can stage an epic battle. My verdict: thumbs way up. Congratulations, Lego, on giving us a really fun set!

          The Battle of Metru-Nui
This set is so cool. Even though it is expensive, I would HIGHLY reccomend this set. I rate it 5 stars. This set is really fun to build (it may take a few days, though) and play with. That big mask in the middle is my favorate piece. If you go to [...], you can watch a commercial for this set. It comes with 6 Toa minifigures, and (I think) 8 Visorak minifigures. I have this set, and days after I was done building it, I would still like to play with it. The Visorak minifigures glow in the dark, and, if you press on thier back legs, they jump. I like to line them up right next to each other and launch them all at the same time. This is a really great set.

          X-wing: Rebel Fighter
Overall, this toy is pretty durabale when being played with and it makes an excellent display piece.I would reccomend this toy to anyone who is a fan of Lego or Star Wars. I have a few suggestions though:
          1. the nose is very wobbley and you can strengthen it by
replacing the 2 by 2 brick with a hole in the end with a 2 by 3 brick.
          2. the lego company could have made this set even better by adding a cargo speeder,Luke in his pilot uniform and Biggs darklighter so you could make the complete version from episode IV in addition to the one from episode VI.(I improvised by making my own cargo speeder and using the Luke from a snowspeeder set but no Biggs.Oh well.)

I hope my review was helpful to you

Lego Stories and Action Vikings: Viking Warrior Challenges the Fenris Wolfe (7015)

            Average review score:

LEGO Vikings are great, but you get what you pay for!
I am an adult LEGO fan and I mainly buy the LEGO Star Wars line. I was somehow drawn to this new Vikings line, however, and I love 'em!

This particular set is the cheapest an smallest. The wolf is not that great of a creature, especially compared to the dragons in the more expensive sets.

I have all the Vikings sets and your best bets are the Viking Fortress ($70), Viking ship ($50), and the Viking Catapult w/ Dragon ($20). The Viking boat is also a good deal for $10.00.

This little set is my least favorite of the Vikings line, but was the only one keeping me from completing all the sets.

Extra, extra, read all about it: Viking Vs. Fenris Wolf one of the BEST lego sets yet!
Well, first, we'll start with the wolf. It has a nice red eyepiece (a red "technic" 12-inch piece), and a unique head. The neck is a "Toa Hordika" headpiece. There is no bottom lip, which detracts from the looks but not from the fun. It has a "RoboRider Head" for his back. His legs are mostly black "Battle Droid Arms". I'd rate it 9/10 for no bottom lip.
The viking is AWESOME! He has coveted "sparkly black" parts on his helmet and axe. The axe is two parts, unlike the previous axe type. He has a shield and a silver "Knight's Kingdom" sword
as well as "Knights Kingdom minifig armor" in black. His "turret" has a black spear and a "Nuhvok Kal" claw. The turret kind of sucks, but the "Nuhvok Kal" claw will be useful to bionicle fans (as will the "Toa Hordika Headpiece" now that I think of it,)so all is forgiven. Overall the viking/turret gets 8.5 out of 10 for blatant turret suckiness. An average of 8.75/10, good job LEGO!
