LEGO Designer Set: Speed Wings

Great toy for kids that are into Legos and airplanesMy son has been making elaborate airplanes with Lego blocks for several months but he never had angled pieces for the wings and other special curved pieces to give them the look of true aircraft. This product has added greater reality to his designs. He's loving it.

Decent props, but you must have the big Thomas set.You get a decent vehicle and water tower prop for the money, but you must know you need to purchase the larger Thomas set, which comes with a full set of track, or the deluxe Thomas set (the priciest one with the tunnel and bridge). On it's own, you only get a section of track and can't use it as a real train on it's tracks. I've seen the straight tracks pieces sold individually in the Lego City line, which are compatible, but you won't be able to connect them fully without curved track from the Thomas set. I am not sure if there are curved track available from the Lego City line.
Buy Lego Percy - A Superior Thomas toyMy son (3.5 yo) loves *everything* Thomas and Lego Percy is no exception. He plays with him almost daily even though he certainly has other Thomas and Friends options.
Part of the attraction is that he gets to build things (using his own imagination) with his Mega-bloks and Legos that work with Percy (duplo size). For example, this particular set comes with a special pair of blocks that pivot. This has allowed him to build his own `Cranky' and water tower, etc.
Also, he has some Lego wheeled vehicles (the four wheel 12-up peg size) that Percy can pull. These he has turned into some remarkable `coaches'. (Really some of them are huge! LOL)
Now as another reviewer pointed out you don't get much track with any of the Lego-Thomas train kits, but I wouldn't worry about it. This is actually one of the Thomas toys that track doesn't seem that important. My son just plays for hours on the floor making things that work with Percy - buildings, coaches, Cranky.
Five Stars. A great educational toy. Lego Percy is sturdy and allows for lots of creativity. My one suggestion would be to buy other Legos - particularly some with wheels that can be the bases for coaches- if you don't already own some. This way Percy is at his educational best. Your child can build all sorts of friends and equipment.
Note: Our Lego collection was 3099. I couldn't find it on Amazon but I think the Lego Duplo 140-pc. Bulk Tub (5352) ($15) has the wheeled base vehicles that connect to Percy.

Great buyMy son is a huge Thomas fan and finding Thomas in legos, something he is good at putting together, is just wonderful. He hasn't put it down since we gave it to him!

Nifty to build, bit pricyOne of the best values of LEGO Technics is the education value. The forklift accomplishes this well, as it teaches several mechanical principles (rear steering, graduated lift, universals, tilt back, and smooth lift mech.) It's a bit hard to put the fork section together, but the body part is not difficult. I thought it a bit pricy, even given the nice mechanics. Fairly decent parts selection, similar to my favorite this year - the excavator at 20.00.

Great toyI have not been following the Technic series for quite a while but when I saw this I knew I have to get it. And get it I did. It might be a bit pricey, and personally I don't like motorized pieces because of uncertainty (might go kaputt anytime), but this sure is a looker! However it is not all perfect, IMHO; the outriggers could have been made more powerful (how so is another matter). The turntable could have been geared. There could have been another pair of wheels (imagine). There could have been suspension in the wheels. And the dummy steering wheel in front looks rather ridiculous. But nonetheless this is still a master piece. What's next, a giant fire engine? Count me in!
Most Awesome Lego Technic Set Ever! I am a 30 year old AFOL (Adult Fan Of Lego) and have been eagerly awaiting this set since seeing the preview pictures. I must say I was not disappointed when it arrived. Functions include 6-wheel steering (manually operated), extending/retracting outriggers (manually operated) a 6 cylinder engine with pistons that move in and out when the model is rolled on a surface, Pneumatic boom elevation, motorized hoist up/down and 3-section boom extension. The boom can also be (manually) rotated 360 degrees.
This is a set with many functions that will delight mechanical minded folks both young and old. Build time was around 8 hours, and I have assembled many large Technic sets. If this is your first time it may take longer.
The capacity of the crane isn't very much for its size, but it is really designed to showcase mechanical functions more than do actual work.
This set also builds a cherry-picker type aerial lift truck (bucket truck) that looks interesting if you tire of the crane.
For those interested in the parts, there are a good assortment of smooth beams and also a decent quantity of classic studded beams which seem to be getting scarce in the newer Technic sets. Of course there are plenty of the common Technic pins, liftarms, gears, etc. This set has the larget piece count (1884) of any Technic set ever produced! If you are a fan of Lego Technic don't even hesitate, buy it today!

Great choice for a 2 year old on upMy 2 year old just got this as a gift from his aunt, and he adores it. Not only does it fit and work with his Duplo blocks, but it is much easier for him to manipulate than his wooden Thomas set. He adores Thomas, and while I wish this set clearly stated that it is an add-on set (now I have to go and get him some more track!), he has had a lot of fun putting the trains together and pushing them under the bridge.
I love the open, creative play - the fact that it doesn't make sounds, flash lights, or require batteries. He loves having a larger choo-choo that is easy for him to play with on his own. We will definately be getting more Thomas Duplo trains in the near future!

Hours of fun for little lego fans!My 4 year old son got this for his birthday, and even though he doesn't have the whole Thomas set with all the tracks he's had lots of fun with it. He drives it all over the house without any tracks just like he does with his matchbox cars. He has used some of his other Duplos with it and built train stations, and has even incorporated it into his Duplo castle. The knights have suddenly advanced quickly in the transportation department as they now don't have to rely only on their four legged and winged friends to carry them.
Granted having all the tracks etc. would probably excite him, so he'll get them for Christmas, but even on it's own this is a fantastic toy.
The pieces are very durable and easy for little hands to put together and most importantly of course to take apart. It seems that my son always likes the toys he can take apart and put back together the best. Another big plus for all you mom's out there, they're easy to clean. Unlike regular lego parts these are easy to just run under some water or wipe off because there's actually enough of it to hold on to.
Even my 5 year old daughter who's a girly girl loves to play with this toy. This is a great toy.

What a Fun Toy -- a Review of Lego JamesI have to start off by being honest. We don't have Lego James *yet*. He is still waiting to join Lego Percy on the tracks, but I wanted to tell you how much fun Lego Percy is, and that I am sure Lego James will be just as great.
First, the Thomas Lego trains are cute. They are a very good size for small hands, and although they don't come with very much track, it doesn't seem to matter at all.
My son (3.5 yo) spends all of his time playing with his Lego Percy on the floor, combining his new friend with some huge coach constructions that he has made. (Really some of them are huge--LOL)
He does this by virtue of the fact that the duplo size lego wheeled vehicles can be pulled by Lego James and Lego Percy. So not only does he get to play with his favorite Steamies, but he also gets to make things (sheds, even Cranky!) with his duplo legos. [Mega-bloks work too)
Five Stars. Cute educational toys that allow for lots of imaginative play. My one suggestion would be to buy other Legos - particularly some with wheels that can be the bases for coaches- if you don't already own some. This way Lego James will be at his educational best. It's Lego! It's Thomas! What more can you ask for?I bought this set for my son last Christmas. There still hasn't been a day he hasn't played with it. The Thomas Load set was already fun in itself but including the bridge and the tunnel just made it incredible. We have made so many different configurations with it and has since bought James, Percy and Toby for his third birthday.
Highly recommended!

Thomas Is The Best!I love Thomas and this set was out of this world! It had lots!
It's a Thomas! My three-year-old little girl was so excited to open this on Christmas morning; she was beside herself (exactly the effect I was going for). I set up the tracks for her, and after she watched me put the trains together a few times, she was able to do it herself. She carries them all over the house with her and even to bed! Tonight (12/28/05) I'm going to move the tracks out of the corner. Maybe she'll like them better if there not off by themselves like that. Finally a toy we both enjoy playing with together!
