I needed something to land my Lego Millennium Falcon (check it out at www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0001CU1HY/ref=cm_aya_asin.title/104-0488135-0118334?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance ) on, so I decided to pick one of these up. It seemed all right at first, but thanks to its lack of rigidity it's a bit loath to hold onto the ship's landing gear. One little flex when I'm movin' it from one room to another, and alla' sudden the Falcon's takin' a catastrophic hyperdrive jump straight downward to Planet Floor. It also doesn't hold onto the various mini-figures very well, either. On the upside: it goes a lot better with those Lego Star Wars ships than the much smaller green base plate I was planning to get instead...

Yes, it's a grey 15" square Lego plate. But I seem to remember the "baseplates" being the same thinkness as a regular Lego piece. ...the base plate is a thin (1/16"?), flexible Lego baseplate that will allow you to build really big stuff, but it's tough to use on the "living room carpet" because it is so thin it flexes into the carpet when you try to press a "house" onto it. The result is that either only one corner of the house sticks, or it sticks fine, but all the other structures you've put on, flex off.

Anyway, it's a vital item in any kid's (or adult's) Lego set....

If you're worried about it flexing glue it to a piece of wood. If you get the right thickness of wood you can match the height of the board to the height of a regular brick (ie: 3 flats high). I've got two of them expoxyed to the center of a 2' x 4' piece of MDF (~ $3 + epoxy) and it works great on the carpet. There's extra room around the plates for building or running cars on, etc.

The price is a bit lofty (pardon the pun) for what you actually get. A price of $25.00 would be better suited. The main reason I got this for my 2 year old son is the fact that until the age of three, there are no good construction toys on the market. At least, none that look like the things they're supposed to be (Little Tikes and Tonka - please, the stuff looks more like spaceships!). My son just loves construction equipment but since he can't have anything metal at this age, this is the only option. The accompanying parts are really of no value and the inherent problem with Lego theme sets is that there is little option for variation in the construction of the pieces. That having been said, this toy got the biggest smile when he unwrapped it (possibly because of the Bob the Builder theme, but maybe because of the appearance too), and he has been playing with it consistently since Christmas. And I think he will for quite some time.

I am a pediatric therapist so I am picky when it comes to toys. My own 2 year old loves this toy. From a theraputic viewpoint it works on plenty of communication and fine motor skills. We love pretending and playing. I bought all the Bob Lego Toys and we play and play. They are durable and a good value.

I bought this toy two months ago. My 3 1/2 year old son absolutely loves it. He also has a bucket of Lego Duplo blocks and plays with Scoop and Lofty every day! Yes. It's been two months and he still plays with Scoop and Lofty every day. The trucks are excellent quality as all Lego's products. He can build and rebuild them mixing and matching parts as he wants, picking up other Lego blocks with Lofty's hook or Scoop's scoop and building houses, towers or whatever he wants with them. I must say that from all the Bob the Builder playsets and toys out there this set from Lego is by far the best as educational, fun and quality toy. We also have the Muck and Roley sets which were a great addition to my son's Lego's collection and they are great too but this Lofty and Scoop set is much more fun to play since both trucks can accomplish more together than the others alone.
So, if your child is a Bob the Builder fan this Lego set is THE must have. And it comes with Bob too.

My four year old boy went through a pirate phase after reading a pirate book. He started to draw his own pictures, and I pursuaded him to draw pictures that would tell a story. These are now stapled together in a pirate story. I'm keeping this set and Sharks Prey for his fifth birthday when I hope this will rekindle his imagination about the pirates. I will get a small plastic box to hold the little pieces in though! The treasure chest is a beautiful item, with a neat lock (its a sliding latch, not a key), and its full to the brim with amazing treasures. The treasure chest is probably the best part of the set.

I would not have bought this set if the Blackbeard pirate ship had come with gold pieces. I know my son could have used something else or we could have made gold pieces for the treasure chest (that comes with another set) but that would not have worked in the long run. The set is just fine...my son does not play with the island or tree....but the other pieces all fit on the pirate ship, and that is what he wanted.
