I truly love this set of stuffed companions. The material Uglydog is made from is very soft and not at all ugly, despite the makers' statement that these dolls are made from the "ugliest materials" they could find.

Uglydog has made friends very easily with my imaginary dog, Jellybean. There was no problem with him fitting into our little world, and I am happy that Jellybean has a new best friend. Both of them are a little frustrated with me though because I throw their tennis ball like a girl and they don't get to run as far as they'd like while playing fetch. However, I make good pancakes, so they put up with me.

Uglydog comes with a small card describing him in detail. For those who decide they like these dolls, I recommend a visit to the official Uglydolls website for a peek at their T-shirts and the 7 inch dolls. The smaller versions are different colors than the larger ones.

I purchased this little fellow in Prague after being given the Dragon for Christmas. It's a remarkably detailed piece, with an amazing level of historical accuracy in the armor and armaments of the 14th/15th century. It's made of highly durable plastic, and overall it's rugged enough to withstand the rigors of entertaining youngsters. I bought several other members of the Schleich Knights series for my two nephews, aged 4 and 6, so there is minimal concern that the detachable parts could be dangerous for young children. The pieces come in two opposing camps: the Red Fleur de Lis, and the Blue Lion, and each piece has a corresponding piece in the other, with somewhat different design and graphics. This reflects an impressive variety in styles of armament and armor of the period, and vastly improves the educational value of the series. This piece, by the way, is one of my very favorites, and it has a very elegant look. The feet seem to be molded a bit ineffectively, however, as he has a tendency to topple forward, but a little gentle manipulating will sort this out.

As with all of the Red Fleur de Lis camp, this toy reflects a slightly more antiquated armor than their rival, the Blue Lion, with the Red Camp showing arms and armor of the 12-13th Centuries (typically), and the Blue the arms and armor of the 13-15th. This reflects an impressive variety in styles of armament and armor of the period, and vastly improves the educational value of the series. The level of detail, for this price, is actually quite surprising. Also, it appears some political sensitivity went into the crafting, as the Red Fleur de Lis corresponds more closely to the English armor and weapons of the periods, while the Blue Lion more closely refelcts the French, despite the switched heraldic devices.
