There is much misinformation in the Editorial Review.

Go is not a particular "bloody" game at all. Rather it accentuates elements such as "balance" & "harmony", "efficiency" and "shape". Unlike Chess it is not concerned at all with the killing or capture of a King. Indeed, the game does not revolve around killing or capture at all. While the game is won by the player with the most territory, interestingly the acquisition of territory is almost an afterthought in a game played by experienced players!

There are no "squares" - it is a grid.
The stones are played on the intersections.

Unlike Chess, Go has an effective handicap system so that weaker players can play with much stronger players on an even footing.

Bloody games include things like the typical "video game", fwiw.

So, this "product" is probably sufficiently good to provide a playing surface and stones to start to play... although I have not seen the product myself.

We like this game. The instructions are clear and play can begin quickly after reading them with out a lot of refering back. The wooden board is sturdy, but the plastic pieces feel a little cheesey. It would be nice if the game came with a couple small pouches to keep the playing pieces separate.

I bought mine some years ago, just the box art tells you what you will find, the board is ample, the beads are plastics but very solid, the wood is supreme... I noticed it was out-of-stock for some years, good to see it back

If you are looking for a durable Go board, this is a good choise

I had an "Educator" Chess Set when I was a kid. It looked just like this one. Big difference was that the pieces of that set were solid plastic where-as in this set they are hollow and open-bottomed. That set had a nice weight and feel to it. This one just seems cheap.

I guess I got what I paid for. Used to be that plastic items where the mark of inexpensive/cheap products. Today, we wouldn't want you to have too much plastic-it would seem tacky.

This is a unique way to teach children, or even adults the concepts of chess. A great learning tool!

I highly recommend this chess set. My 6-year-old was very interested in learning chess, but my husband and I didn't know how to play. This set helped all of us learn together. The best way to learn more complex strategies, like castling, is by playing against good chess players, but this set gave us a great start!

Pieces are a reasonable size and good replicas of regular pieces. Magnetic board holds the pieces fine. An excellent value for the money

For those who may be interested, here is a listing of which pieces are included in this new chess set. For the silver "good" side, the pawns are Republic Clone Troopers, kneeling and holding a rifle. The two rooks are C3P0/R2D2 (together on one piece), and Padme firing a blaster from Episode II. The knights are Han Solo in Episode IV clothing and Chewbacca with bowcaster, and the bishops are Princess Leia from Episode IV and Luke Skywalker from Episode VI. The queen is a bearded Episode III Obi-Wan, and the king is Yoda flying through the air (resting on a piece of clear plastic) with a lightsaber. On the black "evil" side, the pawns are the Episode IV era stormtroopers, kneeling with rifles. The two rooks are Count Dooku and Darth Maul (holding a double-bladed lightsaber and doing a high kick). Bishops are General Grievous (two of his four arms are holding lightsabers) and a General Grievous bodyguard with staff. Knights are Jango Fett from Episode II flying with jet pack and firing double pistols, and Boba Fett from Episode VI, presumably firing his wrist cable. The queen is Darth Vader with lightsaber, and the king is Emperor Palpatine with hands poised for sith lightning ala Episode VI. All pieces are made from molded plastic, and weapons will most likely be deformed and wilted when you remove them from the package. If your lightsabers are not all twisted and warped, be surprised and thankful. Also, getting them put back into their proper (unmarked) place in the packaging is like a difficult jigsaw puzzle. In the end, however, this is a nice set and I believe it is worth the price.

The only disappointment with this set is that the pieces are plastic. When we picked up the box it was quite heavy so we hoped the pieces were some sort of metal. Alas. However, they are not flimsy. Some of the weapons were a bit curved out of the box but they straightened out with a little TLC. Don't even think about getting them back into the box once you've taken them out unless you wrote down where each piece came from. The board is nothing special, just cardboard, and is a little small for the size of the pieces. If you plan on playing the game I'd suggest getting a larger board. Otherwise, it's great for display purposes. This is the nicest Star Wars chess set we've seen. Buy it, you'll love it.

This is a great game, it helps do my customers iq's. And its simpsons chess, not an ordinary chess set.

This is an excellent gift idea for anybody! This chess set is definitely gets an A+ for fun! Even if you're not a Simpson's fan or haven't heard much about them, this set wonderfully symbolizes the intelligence of the family. Homer is crowned with a beer in his hand while Marge stands taller than the king himself with a rose close to her chest. There is Bart as the bishop, Lisa as the rook, Krusty as the knight, and Maggie portrayed as the pawn. I am surprised, however, that Flanders was not the Bishop. Afterall, he is the holiest of people, the most spiritual to spirits, and the most faithful of all God's faithless souls!
I was asked to rank this toy on an educational level and I gave it four stars. I did so because it is a game of chess. Simply, chess is an educational game that increases your sense of logic and reasoning. Although it is the Simpson's that we are talking about, the fact that if a person can play well with these peices without mixing them up with confusion, then I think you've accomplished something. Skill. As with any chess pieces that are represented by other characters or symbols, you obtain a good sense of awareness and strategy.
This toy is a very fun toy and I would reccommend it to anyone, ESPECIALLY if they enjoy watching the Simpson's. It is fun to play, fun to watch, and fun to display. Friends should definitely be impressed with this chess set!

This ia a great chess set because it shows your love for The Simpsons and Chess. It is very derable and fun to with your friends and family. I have alot of fun playing with this chess set.This is a must have for Simpsons fans like me.

Every time someone sees me playing chess with this board the first thing they say is "Wow; that must have cost you a couple of dollars." And the beauty of it is that it did not. For only $20.00 I own one of the most beautiful chess sets I have seen without having to purchase a collectors item.

The pieces are large, something that chess aficionados will appreciate. They are finely crafted solid wood pieces with felt bottoms.

The wooden board folds in half and you may store the pieces in it. It has a magnetic closure that will keep your pieces safe in place. When opened the little metal thingy that keeps the board together will raise the board a quarter of an inch in the middle but only the pickiest will mind.

We use this chess set officially in our tournaments which will play three times a year.

Any who, if you are searching for an impressive chess set that's cheap but looks expensive, this is it.

This is good quality simple chess set that is easy to cart around. I look around locally for something just like this and could not find one this quality and for this price anywhere. Very pleased with my purchase.

It's well made, with a magnetic closure that keeps it shut. The wooden pieces and board are large enough to not restrict one's view, which is most important to me. I wish it had a foam insert for keeping the pieces, but a freezer bag is sufficient. With five kids, I'm going to get a couple more of these.

My set arrived in wonderful condition, no cracks or other flaws and, although the peices aren't big on detail, they are a good size, light and do have a design to them. Plus they get the job done. The board isn't too small for me either. I wanted a smaller, lighter set for travel, playing at the beach etc... For $9.99 this is a real bargain!

I was very pleased with the product. The pieces are plain and easy to recognize, which was what I was looking for to teach my grandson with. The wooden pieces and wooden board were well made and polished. All in all, this was far better than I expected for the price!

This is an amazing deal. For a wooden chess board with wooden pieces, this is an excellent price. Although the wooden pieces arn't really heavy and don't have felt bottoms - this is an excellent deal for $9. This fits perfectly on my desk and looks great. People are constantly telling me how nice it looks and amazed I would pay so much for it. The board is solid and very heavy - very nice. Enjoy!
