My First LeapPad Software: Dora the Explorer to the Rescue

    Very well produced package
My daughter is only 2 & 1/2, but she has figured most of this out. She loves Dora and now she has an interactive Dora. The quality of the activites amazes me. The best feature is the music. The music is so good that my daughter prefers to dance then play the games when you hit the butterfly game features.

    Great Product
My daughter plays with this continously. It is a very good learning tool.

This is a great leap pad book!
We bought this because our daughter loved playing with her uncle's when she went to visit him. She was ecstatic when she saw she had one too! she has a few other leap books, but she enjoys this one alot. it sings dora songs, teaches counting and abc's and other important things children should start learning about when they are 3. i would recommend this even if your child is not an avid dora fan.

    Leapster Arcade: Word Chasers
    Made by LeapFrog

    Great experience, just as expected
Fast shipping, product exactly as described. Thanks for a good experience.

    Different type of learning approach
I gave this 5 stars because overall I think this is a great game. It operates like the video arcade game pac-man did. The difference is, you choose the level you want to start and the Leapster then gives you a word to spell according to that level. Then you have to correctly go through the maze and find the letters in order. So for example, if you picked level 1, you may have a simple word like tag to find. Once the game has started, you have to go through the maze and find the T first, without bumping into another letter and so on and so forth. You can get bonus points by chasing mice after you correctly get each letter among many other things.

My son only chose to stay on level 2 so far today, so I am sure there are other things to do with this cartridge. One of the things I liked the most was that you had to spell the words out of "thin air". There werer no hints or anything to copy. It was learning through trial and error. I was originally worried about my son being bored becuase he is already a reader (5.5 yrs old), but it really was fun for him to figure out words he only knew in a "kid writing" sort of way. Having the Pac-Man arcade approach kept him interested.

I don't know what the price will be after it is back in stock, but we got it as buy one, get one and it was also reduced to 17.99 each. So I only paid 24.00 total with the shipping and tax. I think the original/non-sale price was really high though? If you have a reading kindergartener or 1st grader plus, they will like it. If your child can't read yet, this is too advanced and not worth spending the money yet.

    Radica Sudoku (Big Screen)

Lets me play the way I do
Easy, straightforward interface (for instance, a button for each number) and navigation through cells. Easy to tell which numbers start with the puzzle and which ones you entered. Provides time-penalized hints in any cell. Pauseable and saves your game between (auto-off) power sessions. Most importantly, this device lets you make "pencil marks"! I have checked out at least a dozen products and I have yet to come across an electronic Sudoku that electronically lets me enter dots or Xs to indicate which numbers might (not) be in a cell. It makes me wonder if the people ordered to design and implement these games actually play Sudoku themselves. The closest I've seen let you enter multiple numbers in a cell and it blinks through them, which I find cumbersome and patience-trying. Sadly, this thing doesn't do electronic marks either, but their lower-cost solution involves a dry-erase pen that lets you make the marks right on the screen, on top of little numbers printed in each cell's background. Losing marks in travel is prevented by the recessed contours of the screen. Why not 5 stars? Just the fact that the marks aren't electronic, there's no backlight, and the shadows cast by the dry-erase marks can be a little disorienting. Otherwise, a well-done, fun, and addictive product!

      Brainwashing
The bloody people who think this board has anything to do with Satan are brainwashed. Why does anything that looks paranormal have to be evil? you are like sheep just following and being dumb. That's not what religion is about, that is mind control. To be honest I am very open religiously and I accept everyone's religion, but there's no point in going to tell people they're gonna fry in hell cause they believe in something different. That's what got innocent people burnt on the stake ("heretic" comes from greek and meens "choice"). I 'm sure that if you people had been the first to see a television set you would have probably thougt it was the work of the devil. And don't go sayin I'm a satanist cuse it's not the case.
(Do not take note of the rating I gave this game)

      Disney's Princess Answering Machine

        disappointed
First of all, the 3 buttons on the bottom of the actual answering machine are different than what's in the manual. The manual has a message button, a play button and a record message-the toy doesn't. So you cannot record an outgoing message like the manual says.

It says to dial any 7 numbers to call a princess--My 4 yr old daughter wants the exact phone number to call them. She doesn't want to just dial anything-she's old enough to know the difference.

The most disappointing part...the voices do NOT come out of the handset. She was (and I was too) expecting to 'talk' to the pricesses using the phone like a real phone. My older daughter has a barbie phone that works like a real answering machine and phone and the voice comes out of the handset!

Don't waste your money on this if your child is 4 or older-it's too babyish

        My little ones love it!
I got this for my daughter as a christmas-present. All my kids love it. A very good gift indeed! 5 stars.

        Get it!
This is so cool! I can phone princesses and answer all their questions! I can be with them all the time with my dolls and when they broke and we were going to get replacements I kept phoning them up and asking how they were and I get Disney Princess replies! How coll is that!

        Letters on the Loose (L-Max)

        My kids favorite
My kids love their leapsters. We own almost all the games. At first I thought they would prefer the cartoon games that they have seen on TV. That was not the case. My 4 & 7 yr olds both love Letters on the Loose. I bought it for the 4 yr old but they both fight over it all the time. Another great one that my 7 yr old plays is Math Missions. Also Dora for my younger child. The others are just ok. Not very interesting. Math Missions you earn money to play video games. I highly recommend these games. I wish they would come out with a game to teach states and capitals. I keep their Leapsters in the car so they always have something to do... even if its a 10 min. ride. Keeps them busy in restaurants too. Finally a video games that educates them without even knowing it.
Letters on the Loose - you have to help the letters. Letter A -you need to shut off a alarm. Letter B - The B dances. Letter C - you have to shovel snow and look for the letter C. Letter D - you have to look for a musical instrument that starts with the letter D like drum. Once you find the letter you have to trace it. The kids love it!!!

        Excellent game
This game is loads of fun and an excellent teaching tool - my daughter is now writing her letters on paper, using what she learned in the game. She also recognizes letters and repeats the sounds she's learned from the game. This is worth every dime they charge for it.

        Excellent game
My 3 1/2 year old son loves this game. It is really helping him to learn how to write his letters. He also thinks its really cool to go back and look in the book at the progress he has made. I highly recommend this product to any child over 3.

          A great party game
A few years ago this game was hard to find. Now you can find it about anywhere, and thank goodness, too.

The best way to play this game is to speak the french words in a bad french accent - i.e. Maurice Chavalier. Doing it that way adds character to the game. Don't worry - you don't need to know french to enjoy the game.

Come on, you know you want to have fun! Buy the game!

          Mille Bornes Card Game
When I was a kid we use to play a game called Touring. My guess it was a rival company but it was certainly the same game as Mille Bornes as far as I can recall. Touring hasn't been around for years now but Mille Bornes has continued and this collectors addition should make Baby Boomers and even kids today happy on a rainy day or any time you feel like playing a card game. Anyone that enjoys games with some challenge and luck should enjoy it. The object is to get all your speed cards before your opponents. There are flat tire, run out of gas, speed limit, and wreck cards you use to road block your opponents. Just great fun to play for the whole family. I guarantee if you get them to sit down and play just one hand it will end up being a few hours before you quit. You can set it up and learn the rules quickly and play a few hands for just minutes if you like or spend hours at it to kill time or pass a bad weather day. Excellent family entertainment. This is a real plus to take on trips with the friends or family to kill a little time with when resting or if the rain has dampened your plans for the day. If I have any complaints, it is the newest versions are cheaply made in comparison to the original version. I would rather pay a little more than have such cheaply made cards. As one reviewer astutely put it they use to be like Bicycle brand cards. They use to be nice and thick with a good plastic coating. Now they are like notebook paper with a little wax on them. If you are lucky enough to find a older version at a garage sale or somewhere I recommend it over this one. I probably should have taken off two stars for Durability but I like the game itself so much I wasn't thinking clearly.

          Mille Bornes
This game is fun for all ages and any number of players. I bought it again, because it is my daughter's favorite game.

            Irritating puzzles
My son got 2 of these puzzles for Christmas....and they are not worth the extra money for the sound. They are controlled by light sensitive technology, so even when the pieces are in place, they make noise if I turn off the lights or a shadow walks by. We took the batteries out, they were so disruptive and scared our son when they randomly went off. Just buy the regular peg puzzles, they are just as effective, and not annoying like these!

Good conversation started for a two year old
This was a great buy from Amazons sale rack at [...] plus free shipping. My 2 year old just loves puzzles and we are certainly fond of Melissa and Doug products. We normally purchase them from Tuesday Morning or our local hobby store because they are usually cheaper.

This puzzle has made my toddler happy. He fits it together then dumps it, repeating the process several times a day. The drawings are realistic and the pegs help little hands fit things in perfectly! We talk about the farm animals, make the sounds, and learn about the colors of the animals.

Wholesome fun for kids starting at age one!
I bought this puzzle when my firstborn was one year old and he has loved playing with it as has his little brother. There is something very appealing (and wholesome) about kids loving farm animals...even those living in the suburbs with no farm in sight.

As with all the wooden peg puzzles from this manufacturer, the quality is high and they are very durable. The key to this brand, unlike others in same price range, is that the photo is idential underneath as on the piece itself. This is key for one year olds and even two year olds to master using the puzzle. I have seen both my kids struggle when 1 or 2 with different puzzles that are blank underneath or worse, show a different scene under the piece than on the piece.

I think it is wise to start off right at age one with the wooden peg puzzles as a plaything. My kids also play with the pieces separately from just making the puzzle. After they've mastered matching the piece and fitting it in, usually when they are around 2 they can do the different puzzles that don't have the image underneath.

Doing matching exercises and fitting these pieces into their proper places aids with hand eye coordination and thinking skills. Every child should have several of these puzzles of their own to play with.

The puzzle holder by this manufacturer is very useful to store the puzzles when they are not being played with and I highly recommend that as well.

This is a great gift for any holiday!

            too good to be true!
My two sons love this toy so much that when my oldest got it for his birthday they fought over it. Now I am getting one for my youngest son's birthday. It is a very sturdy well made toy that looks just like the movie character.

            Batman rules
My son got this toy for his 5th birthday just a few months ago *I paid full price and it's worth every penny. My son LOVES his batman and takes him everywhere. He is pretty rough on toys so I was worried about the cape surviving but it has done great in the many travels and adventures of a 5 year old. It's a great size for great big fun!
