toys to enjoy
Amazing durabilityAs I said in my review of the other animals, my 19 month old adores these toys. So much, in fact, that he often shares his meals with them. We've put all the animals through our dishwasher at one time or another and they've held up very well.
cute little animals!!The extra animals sets are a wonderful addition to the ark. My daughter especially loved the alligators!!!

Numbers on the Run (L-Max)
Made by LeapFrog
- 4-6 years
Amazon base price: $24.99
Average review score:

L max gamesIt's probably a year ahead of where she is right now. I think my daughter knew that too, because I can't find the cartridge. The games are a little too pricey, for how little amount of activities are on them, and how easily they are lost.
Counting on LearningI just gave this game to my twins for their 4th birthday. They fight over who gets to play it. It took some time to master the L-max and the Leapster controller (we have both), but once they figured that out, going up and down the pipes and jumping over the digits was a breeze. They both knew their numbers to 20 before playing, but now they understand the concept of "before" and "after" such as "What number comes before 5?" They will hunt to find the numbers and knock over the "Widgets". They love to figure out the questions. The game also teaches them to write their numbers, which was something they didn't have interest in before. This morning, Anika learned how to write '65' and Alex learned how to write '43'. That's how many 'Widgets' they collected, I guess.
The game has 3 technical levels to work from. They are doing great on level 1. I'm confident that in about a week or two, they will be on level 2.
This game is so far beyond the Gameboy and Playstation for educational purposes (neither of which we own). It makes me feel a little better knowing that they are actually learning something useful for school while entranced in the game. They earn time on the Leapster/L-Max for doing different chores around the house (see my review of the Pink/Purple Leapster.) My home has never been more orderly and quiet. They don't understand the concept of allowance for doing chores, but they sure do understand 'game time' on their Leapsters.
The only thing that I can say that is bad about the game is that is way overpriced. I wish there were more levels for $30. It's a really big hit to the pocket for a month or two of game time.

AwesomeMy son got this for Christmas along with leapster l-max. He loves this game. He had trouble with his numbers and now he is recogniziing numbers past 10! I enjoy playing with it also!

BoringI was expecting much more fun game. My daughters are almost 4 and they get bored after 10 minutes :( It's so slow going and boring. I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone.
Candy Land- fun for all agesMy friends and I recently purchased this game, to bring back child-hood memories. I have to say that we had a blast! A great game for all, and the colors are very mind stimulating for younger children!
several games in oneMy kids really enjoy playing the Candy Land DVD game. There are 3 different games to play and you can play for fun or play to win on each game. With kids running and bouncing around, I really like the fact that the mats pretty much stay put on the carpet. Unlike other games, the kids are not slipping and sliding or falling down on the mats. I believe this game is rated for ages 4 and up, but I think that most 2 and 3 year old kids could play most of the games if not all of the games. My son is 2 and he can play all of the games (we have to help him a bit of the 'Mister Mint says' game though).

My Scene: Out With the Girls - Hudson
Made by Mattel
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

My Scene Hudson is Gorgeous!!I got a really good deal on this doll (...). The sad part is that I believe mothers don't really buy the guy dolls. Hudson comes with a duffel bag, a tray with two hot dogs and two drinks, sunglasses and two tickets for his date. Plus he has a great outfit with jacket and accessories. I bought one of each for that price you can't go wrong.

Fisher-Price: Doodle Pro - Green
Made by Fisher Price
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

Use it upside downUntil I read some of the doodle pads' reviews I hadn't thought about the cord length being a problem for left-handed kids. On most models the cord is on the right and too short for lefties. This version works great for my (2yr old) left-handed daughter. The cord is long enough. HOWEVER, If your child is lefted-handed and/or the cord is not long enough try using it upside down. I know it sounds strange but then the cord doesn't have as far to reach and it stays out of the way better. Then you just erase from the top.
As for clarity, ours writes clearly for us but you have to follow the instructions for "seasoning" the screen before you use it. Use the magnets to completely blacken the screen and then erase. Repeat several times and then it's ready to use. I would buy the small one for traveling if you have a toddler because this may be too big for a small lap in a car seat.

great toyThis has been the only toy that has held my grandson's interest for an extended time. He has had his doodle pro for over 2 years and still uses it on a regular basis. He started out having us draw pictures on it, moved on to practicing writing letters and now that he is finishing kindergarten, he uses it to write us notes and have us write back. He likes being able to wipe away his mistakes and try again. Best investment ever.
Really great toyMy 2 1/2 yo daughter has had this for about a year and it is STILL the first toy she goes to when she wakes up. She doodles all kinds of creations on it. The stamps are fun too! The only thing i'd have to say is wrong with this toy is that it's difficult for left handed kids as the string that attaches to the pen is on the right side of the drawing area. She's never complained, but it bothers me!

Precious Baby Girl

cute dolli bought it for my neice's first christmas. she enjoyed it for about 2 minutes, them went on to the next present. i guess because it didn't have bells or whistles, it couldn't keep her attention, but she is still very precious. maybe next year she will be able to appreciate her. (she's not even one)
Mom in MSGreat first doll! My daughter got her first for her 1st Christmas, at first it sat on her chest looking cute! Then one day she asked me to get it down and that was all it wrote! We are on our 5th doll. She calls it her little baby. She takes it every where and sleeps with it every night. Washes well! Get doll!
little dollIt was a shower gift. The recipient loved it. So did everyone else at the baby shower. The mother took the doll, and held it on her lap and said "I'll keep this." So cute!

Summit My Storybook
Made by Summit Financial Products Inc.
Amazon base price: $19.99
Average review score:

My Story Book - what a gemThis is great for the imagination of young children. They can write the story and then sit down and read it to you. It stimulates their brains, gets them away from the TV too. I bought several for my grandchildren for Christmas-ages 5-6-7 and they loved it. The 5 year old loves play acting so she wrote her first book the night I gave it to her-it was a really neat story too! She is on her 3rd "My Story Book" now. My Grandson is writing his "life story"-he's 6. Can't wait to hear what he thinks about life. Some day what treasures those stories will be. I highly recommend this-I have re-ordered again today.
GREAT FAMILY FUN!!!!!!!My Story Book is such great fun for the whole family. My daughter (7rys) and I sat down and wrote two stories and filled out all the pages with her information, such as her favorite color, drew pictures of her friend and herself, there is even a page to dedicate the stories to. There is another version of this for more where you have to send the book off to come back as a hardcover. I may try that next, but this is fun if you want instant gratification. I also like it because you can choose your own pictures, we used our digital camera to illustrate along with her own drawings and some prints off our photo shop. This would make a great gift to grandparents, parents and other family members that don't live close by.

Worth every pennyMy granddaughter started making this window art at 6yrs old very successfully. If a child that young has any problem you can do the black outline for them and then let them fill in the colors. www.klutz.com had both the regular window art & the christmas window art book available online along with several paint refill selections to order. Including silver & gold outline colors to use instead of the black and fill in colors not included with the books. Also on most of the webpages for each window art item there is a "Click here for an exclusive window art design" link you can click for a whole page of designs to print out that aren't in the books. Each page is different and even include lots of designs for the different holidays.
My granddaughter is now 8 and a window art devotee.
Enjoy!
ps: can you tell I like making them too?! Fun to do together.

Very Fun and VersatileI originally bought the Christmas kit 2 years ago and each year have added a few more pieces of "art" to my windows. However, now my 5 year old is producing his own charming drawings, which I trace into window art. This is when the fun really started. He loves seeing his art work on the windows and now all the relatives want some. If you let the black outline dry younger kids can fill in.
Buy the refill kit!Cause this is so much fun you're kids will not want to stop making projects!

returned I returned both that I ordered because the playmat was not included in the item as advertised. I am very unhappy with the item's advertising.
Kids absolutely love it!The Buried Treasure playset, as well as the Haunted House, were bought as Christmas gifts for my 3 1/2 yr old son. Both my son and 1 1/2 yr old daughter love them! My son can play it by himself, but my daughter just pushes the car up and pushes the buttons to make the sounds. These are the first toys the 2 yr old boy I babysit plays with! My only complaint is that it doesn't work well with any other matchbox or hotwheels cars--only the cars it comes with. It's hard for the younger kids to understand that. Overall, the kids love it and it keeps them busy!
Non-stop Fun!I bought this for my son for Christmas after he saw it advertised in a magazine. He has been playing with it almost non-stop since then. It is loud and somewhat intricate but easily masterable by small kids. It also connects with other Matchbox sets and comes with a mat for layout. Based on my boy's interest and use so far, this rates 5 out of 5.

The only recomendation I would do is to seal the bottom hole if your children will use this toys inside water, it gets very hard to remove the water after it is filled.
