School House Rock - Grammar Rock (Leapster)

    Big rip off
With five kids under the age of 9 and four Leapsters in the house, there is rarely a time when someone isn't playing one (if not all!) of them. We have about 10 of the cartridges, and this was the most disappointing (followed closely by Spiderman). There simply isn't enough for them to do with it. The beauty of the Leapster is the ability to interact with the games, and learn while they do it. Watching a video on a 2 inch screen just doesn't cut it.

    Birthday Disappointment
We bought this item for our daughter's birthday because she loves Schoolhouse Rock. After opening it and playing we discovered it was just the songs and one game? When you read about what is offered it says "games", we only found one on the whole thing, guess we misunderstood the whole principal of the cartridge. I ended up returning it because if I wanted her to watch the videos I would buy the Schoolhouse Rock DVD, which we did. Anyway, thought we should share this because when you read about it you expect games that have to do with the songs?

    Nostalgic, but not very interactive
First let me say I love Schoolhouse Rock; I can still remember the songs ("Conjuction Junction, what's your function..."). The videos are the ones I remember, but would be easier to see on a television screen. However, we have a number of Leapster cartridges now, and this was the most disappointing because there is only one game. In this game, a part of speech (noun, verb, etc) is listed at the top, and the player chooses from among 4 words which is the part of speech they are going for (i.e. if the top says "noun" the choices might be "run, big, red, and ball"). My daughter liked the game, and liked that there was a two player version, but would have liked more games; that is what she is used to with Leapster. If I had looked at the packaging more closely, I probably would have purchased a Schoolhouse Rock DVD, and a different Leapster game.

the 3 dimensional horses were freezes (i.e., only 1 side of the animal was there) rather than full 3 dimensional items, but otherwise it was quite nice. They were easy to paint and everything came with the item.

    Perfect for little ones
My son received this when he was 3.5, and it's perfect for his age. Some of the jumping moves are a challange for him, but it's good practice in retrying, and patience. The graphics are a little coarse, especially on a bigger TV, but I doubt he notices or cares. He's still playing this after 6 months.

    Fun with Pooh
Our Children (ages 3&4) love their V-smile, and especially the Winnie the Pooh Honey Hunt game. They play it for hours, and it has really helped them with their letters.

    Pooh is our favorite
Pooh is our favorite v-smile smartridge. This one teaches the alphabet and numbers 1-20. It's a great v-smile game.

    Cute game
This is a very cute game for the younger child. It may not be very challenging for an older child, but I think any little girl will enjoy winning and becoming the princess. My daughter was only 3 when she received this game and she has learned how to read numbers off of the spinner, how to count spaces, she has learned to wait her turn, to follow the rules of the game, and to be a good sport about not winning all of the time. It's a fun game for any little girl who likes to dress up and likes to be a princess.

    Fun Game
My daughter loves this game. It is not educational, but is usually better than watching TV.

    Advantages
    - The box takes up little space. I actually like how the board is 4 puzzle pieces for this reason, and do not find it flimsy.
    - The jewelry seems as durable as other play jewelry to me, but I have not bought Disney jewelry before.
    - The spinner/ jewelry box does seem very durable, and is such a great idea.
    - My daughter loves just playing with the jewelry for dressup.

    Disadvantages
    - Not very educational (little strategy is involved).
    - Many fathers would not be willing to play this game.
    - The game pieces are so much fun apart from the game, that they may become lost

Perfect game for fans of princess and dress-up!
This game is a favorite of my four year old! I don't mind playing it myself. Sure, the pieces of jewelry are plastic and could possibly break if pulled on too hard but for game time, they will work just perfectly. The colors are very pretty and vibrant. If you do lose pieces, I don't think it would be too hard to find a substitute at the dollar store.

An average game takes about 20 minutes. With an adult, I bet you could pull your 3 year old in to play this game as well. My age range guess would be about ages 3-7.

A fun addition to your game collection! It's a nice break from candyland and chutes and ladders!

      Fun, Durable, and Imaginative
I actually purchased this because it was on a huge sale, not expecting much, but boy was I surprised. My 2 year old saw it with other toys in the amazon box, and immediately asked that I open this one. I agreed, and we opened it up. There are a surprising amount of pieces. The two of us played with it for close to an hour without getting bored. Then when my 8 year old got home from school the 2 of them spent another 1/2 hour building with it. The biggest surprise, this weekend my husband got down on the floor and spent close to an hour building robots and creatures and towers with my 2 year old with just this set (I can't remember the last time he's done something like that). Needless to say, it's a hit with the whole family, and has been played with every day since. A great buy!

      A must have!!!
My 22month old daughter received the Build n'Go Village from Santa, and what a wonderful toy it is. She was never very interested in Mega blocks, but loves the pop-onz. They are easy to handle, colorful and come in a case that turns into a play table. She can take them anywhere with her. There's no little pieces to lose, or that will become vaccum cleaner food!! My husband is planning on purchasing the castle blocks for her birthday. I strongly recommend this toy.

      MY SON LOVES THIS
This is a great addition to the pop onz table. My son loves to build different things out of the blocks. And they are not very pricey.

Roboraptor is a toy for adults. Too fragile for kids.
I love my roboraptor, but he is a headbanger, literally.
He likes to slam his head against things like real raptors...especially my fridge. Evidently my robopet and roboraptor know where the food is. He is always getting into my cabinets too! Roboraptor is a great toy if you want to terrorize your cat. However, the cat ended up befriending my roboraptor by rubbing against his sensors. Soon roboraptor was stealing the cat's catnip mice in his mouth and chasing balls.
Roboraptor attacked my robopet though and chases him around the house and knocks him over. Robopet has more functionality though. I called my roboraptor Derek after Derek Acorah from Most Haunted, because he is always looking for a CONFRONTATION.
All in all...Roboraptor, great for 29 yr old kids..not so great for kids who break things. If I had the dosh to put down, I'd be getting a Sony Aibo.

I'm a 29 year old woman and I love my Roboraptor!!!!
I have a green Roboraptor named Ripple and he changed my life!!! I've never had so much fun with anything before...I always stop what I'm doing to watch him. Yes, it does have trouble walking sometimes depending on floor and battery power and yes it may well eat batteries and one time the batteries were so strong he lunged forward and fell but, actually he sort of gently rolled over. Kids should be careful because he is powerful so if you are close to him at face level he could pop ya in the jaw with his head!!!! Also if you pick him up when he's powered on, his neck can pinch your skin and mark your arms up but it will go away. Also he can yell into little ear drums very loud so make sure kids are careful when handling him and yes his claws are a bit sharp. Just thought I'd warn ya about those things. I find it fun to interact directly with it or put him on a safe surface so he doesn't fall and become extinct, then turn on loud music changing the stations seeing what he likes best to dance to. The remote isn't great I use it to just change his mood so that if you want him semi quiet put him in cautious mood. I have gotten a lot of play value out of him and only had him about a month and just bought him a mini he has yet to meet. With all being said..definitely buy a Roboraptor!!!!! I think he's wonderful wish I had money to buy more!!!! Maybe I'm crazy but, I just love him!!!!!

      The Best RC Dinosaur
I've had my Roboraptor for almost two months now, and I have to say, I'm glad I got him! He does have 40 functions, I'm sure, but I haven't taken the time to count them yet. All three of his personalites are fun, especially Playful Mode. He wags his tail, nuzzles, "purrs", and plays tug-o-war if you touch the sensor on the roof of his mouth. I like to use a pencil or my finger. Yes, it's true the sensors are buttons; what else could they be? In playful mode, my Roboraptor loves to be scratched under the chin or rubbed on his tail. Don't try it in hunting mode, though! He HATES it! Another Mode I like is Roam. Roboraptor walks around the room and avoids obstacles. Please note that Roborapor can't look at obstacles that are below his 'nostrils'. Here's a little something for you to try the next time you put Roboraptor in Roam. If you put him in Playful Mode, he will act playful and make the same noises he does when he's happy. If you put him in Cautious Mode first, Roboraptor acts very timid and cautious as he explores. He's very quiet as well in this mode. In Hunting Mode, Roboraptor is very noisy and irritable he also roars at anything that moves. One more mode is "Guard". Roboraptor will stand still and guard whatever is in front or to either side of him. If he sees a movement or hears a noise, he will turn his head toward it and roar, stamp and growl. My brother has tried everything to get past it with no luck. If you do invest in a Roboraptor, it's best to get rechargeable AA batteries or else he'll go through alot. My Roboraptor does well on carpet but still has a little trouble backing up. Don't put him on a thick carpet or one of those carpets with loops in it or he will get stuck. Above all have fun, remember it's a toy not a super intelligent robot, and don't let anyone make him try to walk DOWN the stairs!

        My daughter loves her pony!
This little pony is soft and plays the cutest song! I ordered it after my 2 year old fell in love with the "A Very Minty Christmas" movie. She was so excited to get Minty, who is not only cuddly, but plays her favorite song from the movie. Very cute!!!

        Very cute!
I haven't given Minty to my daughter yet, but I hope she'll like it. The toy is about 9 or 10 inches from nose to tail. It's got a hard center because of the music mechanism. My daughter likes "squishy" toys to sleep with, so it may loose some cuddle points with her because of that, and the rest is as soft as could be desired. But the song got stuck in my head from the couple of times I tested it!

        Very Minty Christmas!
I bought this pony because my daughter is obsessed with the Very Minty Christmas dvd. I am so glad I purchased this, even though it was an impulse buy! It is hard to find a Minty anywhere, and this one is perfect. I have had it out playing with it several times, even though it is hidden away as a gift. She is going to be thrilled when she sees "horse!" I am so glad I found a Minty, and the song is perfect and sweet. Buy with the dvd for a perfect combination!

        Not so sure about this
I purchased this looking ahead to some family get-togethers and larger family reunions. I had hoped it would initiate some fun discussions about family history and fond remembrances. It scares me a bit, though. Some of the question categories relate to family secrets and skeletons in the closet. I'm not so sure I want to dredge up things like that at my family reunion.

A great experience to bring the family together
I thought this was a great game. The concept is simple: by using pictures which relate to past family experiences, we share with our loved ones a knowledge of events and personalities which have filled our family history.

The pictures brought back many forgotten memories and allowed my children and grandchildren to hear about aunts, uncles and cousins. It sort of acted like a "chain reaction". Remembering one thing or person brought back other events or personalities.

        Highly recommended.
