A grandmother's favorite teaching puzzleI'm a grandmother of 6 small children ranging from ages infant to 6 years old. Without question, the older children have enjoyed this colorful puzzle often, never seeming to tire of putting it together. The best part is that they are learning the entire time they are putting the little girl together and discussing where her heart, lungs, liver, etc. are located. They will often refer to their own little bodies and show me where their heart, lungs, etc. are! This well-made, durable puzzle comes with its own colorful bag so all the parts can be kept in one place, so no need to worry about losing the pieces. I have given several away and the recipients have been thrilled to have something so creative, entertaining and educational for their childrend and grandchildren. All children would benefit so much by having this puzzle as a learning tool.
Science-minded puzzle is a winnerEvery child (and adult, for that matter) has a natural curiosity about the human body and its "workings". I have found no better way to answer questions from my little ones than by working on this puzzle together. From my 3 year old to my 8 year old to me(!), we're all entertained putting this puzzle together. It's a definite must-get.
Great fun for the Science KidMy three year old loves this puzzle. She plays with it daily. She is at the age when she is a sponge for knowlede. She now knows that she has large and small intestines and tells us that she wants to wash her pancreas when she is in the tub. It is so fun to watch her learn.

My First Lab Microscope
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

It's a real microscopeI am a cell biologist and use microscopes daily in the lab. This microscope was purchased for my six year old son as a birthday gift. It gives bright and clear views with three objectives (4x, 10x, 40x), and it is easy to manipulate for a six year old. It has clean simple outlines and a very steady structure. It's a real microscope and great buy at that price.
Fantastic scope for beginner or advancedI bought this scope for my granddaughter's Christmas present, and it is impressively built. Unfortunately, right out of the box, the head was loose, (but was fixed by tightening the three deeply recessed set screws with a jeweler's screw driver, even thought at first glance it appeared they were missing.), and to make matters worse, the bulb had blown during a factory test, and not replaced. So, if you are planning on buying one of these, get a spare bulb, which has no part number on it, so I am giving it to you here, and write it down,...15T7/CL/DC. Shop wisely, because these bulbs will range anywhere from $1.50 to $10.00. The microscope was excellent otherwise, and had high quality optics, and great "seeing". The light source is excellent, and is the best I have seen in an affordable microscope. It made me want to buy one for myself! This is definitely the one to buy if you want an affordable microscope, and I would recommend you spend the extra $40.00 or so over the cheaper ones to upgrade to this one.
Sooooo happy with this microscope!!!We are using this microscope as amateurs - for general curiousity and eventually for homeschooling - and it has been just wonderful. It is also much easier to use than I remember my high school microscope being 25 years ago.
This scope is easy to focus and use (although I hesitate to let my 6 and 8 year old focus it at 40x due to the risk of cracking a slide), and it has bright lighting, crystal clear images, and sturdy metal construction!!
I initially balked at the price tag, but after the kids received an inexpensive scope that was terribly frustrating for them because they couldn't get a clear image (it had a mirror underneath that you had to move to reflect light), I decided to purchase this one.
This is such a timeless gift. And $100 spread across the next 10 years and three kids is really quite a good value!!
