this is an excellent tool to teach basic science in a fun way. But it fails to mention that you need to buy straws. If you buy this item, pick up straws as well!

My 10 year old daughter received this as a gift and was looking forward to using it. However, we found the instructions very vague. We think we are missing an "O" ring that seals the tumbling barrel, but we wouldn't know as there are no labled parts or list of the parts that were included. Also, the instructions said to use step one coarse grit when filling the barrel, but none of the three envelopes were labled with anything but "SAFETY FIRST" in 4 different languages so we had to guess. Water keeps leaking out and my daughter is almost in tears. I will end up throwing the entire thing out. I would not recommend this toy.

I got this toy for Christmas and it works great every time I us it I get lovely stones especially crystals this rock tumbler is great for learning about how nature makes stones pretty and colorfull I recomend it for rock collectors.

I actually got this "toy" as a high school graduation gift from my boyfriend, who shares my love of the bizarre and "naturale." I've just finished with my first set of stones. Some came with the polisher, and some I found on the camping ground beach near my home. I made sure to test the hardness of the rocks so they wouldn't damage the ones from the company. Everything is beautiful. Even the rocks I found myself. Unfortunately, it took three weeks of running it to make them. It was worth the wait. I'm ready to make some gorgeous charms for a charm bracelet and a pin for my grandmother. And the kit even comes with a necklace, several "rock clasps," two types of pin fastenings, two types of keychain rings, and a ring. The rock clasps can usually only be found in a specialty shop or a high-end craft mart.This is definitely a product to invest in, especially to show kids that underneath sharp edges, there's something soft, shiny, and beautiful!
